the Port Ferdinandea (today Porta Garibaldi), was built in 1768 on the project of Stefano Ittar, and Francesco Battaglia in honor of Ferdinad I of The Two Sicilies and Maria Carolina of Habsburg-Lorraine. It is located between piazza Palestro and piazza Crocifisso, at the end of via Garibaldi, in the neighborhood of the Fort, and in the dialect of Futtinu.
It is characterized by an accented two-tone design made from black lava stone and the white stone of Lentini, was originally enriched from the two towers semiconici on the sides and a pair of egide, with the arms of bourbon, and decorations that have been lost in the course of the NINETEENTH and of the TWENTIETH century. They remain today the old prints and the symbols that represent the city: S. Agata e la Fenice, to indicate the motto of the city: Meior de cinere surgo (I rise more beautiful from the ashes) that represents the pride of the people of catania, who, tirelessly, to rebuild the city after all the destruction that in the seicoli has destroyed.
Remained for a long time at the edge of the tourist interest in recent years has been revived thanks to the intervention of the Assaciazione water supply that has a candidate with success in place of the heart of the FAI.
